A Romantic Early Morning Engagement at Oaklands Mansion

There is something especially beautiful about photographing a couple in a season of life that feels so temporary.


Engagement is filled with anticipation - dreaming about the wedding day, planning a life together, and somewhere in between all of it, simply getting to be in love. For this session, I wanted to create photographs that would bring them back to exactly how this chapter felt years from now.

We spent an early morning together at Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, wandering through the property while the morning sun filtered through the trees. The grounds were quiet, the light was soft and golden, and it felt as though we had the morning completely to ourselves.


Rather than focusing on perfectly posed photographs, I wanted the session to feel like them.

They danced in the grass, ran toward one another, laughed until they forgot about the camera, and spent time together underneath the trees. He played guitar while she danced beside him. There were quiet moments sitting together on an old garden bench and playful moments that unfolded naturally as we explored the property.


Those little in-between moments are often the photographs I love the most.
